2023 Intern Expectations

I can’t believe how fast time is flying during my summer internship as it has already been 2 full weeks. I feel like I was a freshman starting my college career like it was last week and now I am going into my junior year at JMU. It’s been a really fun journey so far and being able to work hands-on with a project has already given me invaluable experience.

Throughout this internship, I’ve had the opportunity to work with many aspects of software engineering.

From containers, kubernetes, and web frameworks such as Flask to many other tools, I’ve been able to apply them and develop innovative solutions for my project that I have been working on. I’ve been learning everything from orbital elements of satellites to REST API’s. It’s been a steep learning curve but has been a very fun experience. I’m looking forward to the end of my internship when hopefully I’ll be able to demonstrate my project live using a real telescope!

One of the highlights of my internship has been how welcoming the entire Millennial team has been and the guidance and mentorship I have been receiving, namely from Maggie and Matt.

I wasn’t sure what I was going to expect and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous but the camaraderie and collaborative environment has motivated me to push myself outside my comfort zone. Despite being all virtual, the team tries to organize social events roughly every month and I get to have in-person meetings with a few of my co-workers every friday which is really nice to have when your office is your bedroom and no one is around.

I want to express my gratitude to the entire team at Millennial for giving me this incredible opportunity.

The support, guidance, and collaboration has made this internship a great experience so far and can’t wait for what the rest of the summer will bring.
